Frankfurt: Even nicer with the new Historic Town, 26 Nov. – 22 Dec. 2018

Each evening during the Christmas season, the Römer (town hall) and a huge Christmas tree tempt thousands to the booths around the Fountain of Justice. And for the first time this year, the new historic Town will be in the midst of it all. A truly special moment is when Frankfurt church bells all ring out together on Saturday 1 December between 4.30 and 5 p.m. and on Christmas Eve from 5 to 5.30 p.m. Then, no less than 50 bells from ten churches ring in a very specific sequence and create an incredible ambience that is quite unique in Germany.

Steinau an der Strasse: Like a fairytale, 30 Nov. – 2 Dec. 2018

Each year, around the first Sunday in December Steinau an der Strasse morphs into a Christmas fairytale. The Brothers Grimm, the town’s most famous sons, define the shape of things in the historical old town with its castle and town hall. Choirs sing, fairytales are told, there are strings of lights, booths with local produce, and the fragrance of baking and mulled wine fill the air, attracting both young and old alike.

Bad Homburg: With a glorious view, Fridays to Sundays in the last four weeks before Christmas

Christmas market in Bad Homburg is renowned above all for its breath-taking location. The booths create a romantic mood on Schlossplatz and in the castle courtyards. A special highlight is the White Tower. During the Christmas market entrance to the castle is free and it offers a marvellous view across the town with its Christmas lights.

Eltville: With international flair, 8 -9 Dec. 2018

On the second weekend before Christmas, Yuletide cheer comes to the wine town of Eltville am Rhein in the historical heart of the old town, to Hof Bechtermünz (winery Koegler), to Sankt Peter und Paul parish church, to Marktstrasse and Rheingauer Strasse. The highlight: The twin towns of Montrichard in France and Passignano in Italy dish up culinary offerings at the Christmas market, giving the occasion an international flair.

Michelstadt: As in the days of yore, 30 Nov. – 23 Dec. 2018

Visiting the Christmas market in Michelstadt in the Odenwald forest is like taking a journey back in time. All round the half-timbered town hall dating from 1484, a path decorated by pine branches and chains of lights leads you through the medieval alleys. The life-size wooden figures that are spread around the entire market are a unique feature and in part serve to point you in the right direction. They were made in the local woodworking college and impress visitors from near and far alike.
